Sam Adegoke, a Nigerian-American actor is making a name for himself in Hollywood. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, and raised in the United States, Adegoke’s unique background and perspective have helped him to stand out in the competitive world of acting. He began his career with small roles in various TV shows and films, but quickly made a name for himself with his dynamic performances and ability to take on diverse roles.
Adegoke, attributes his love for acting to his early days in the church. As the pastor’s son, he was involved in church productions and plays, where he discovered his passion for storytelling and acting. Adegoke revealed, “At first, it was almost an obligation. As the pastor’s son, you had to be involved in one way or another. My sister and brother would write and direct the plays – We did everything! From the birth to the resurrection of Jesus, David and Goliath, almost any bible story you can think of, we did it. And I always played the miscreant, maybe like Judas or the thief on the cross. Over time I didn’t mind at all; I think that’s where I discovered a love for storytelling.”
Adegoke went on to explain that acting is therapy for him, teaching him about himself and his emotions. “Acting is therapy for me. It teaches you so much about yourself because you must be honest. I believe to bring a character to life authentically is an exercise in self-exploration. This became like a drug for me. I wanted to keep learning things about myself that I wasn’t encouraged to express growing up – Because we had to be “strong, spiritual, masculine men.” Emotions are fluid, and they’ll come out one way or another. If you don’t get into the practice of understanding what you’re feeling, it’s going to come out in a Negative way. This is a big part of the work. It’s a constant personal journey, and I’m grateful for it,” he said.
